A MERCHANT'S MANY HATS

When you think of people working in marketing, do you imagine someone wearing multiple hats? If so, you're not alone, even if you don't know what multiple hats mean in this context! When your job is to market other companies' products and services, you have to play many different roles to do your best work. This includes planning how to reach customers, creating campaigns that can be shared across multiple channels, and figuring out which metrics are most important to track in each situation.

Planning

A marketer needs to be a planner. Marketing is a vast field with many different hats a marketer can wear. To be successful, you need to be knowledgeable in as many areas as possible to do the best job for your clients. Getting ranked in one aspect of marketing is easy, but thinking outside the box will help you grow your business and gain new customers that may have been out of reach before.

Research marketing innovations

Marketing is an ever-changing industry, so marketers must stay on top of trends and keep up-to-date on the latest developments. As technology continues to advance and consumers continue to evolve, marketers need to be able to think outside the box and learn about innovations to stay competitive.

Benchmarking Specialist

A marketer needs to be an expert in benchmarking. This means they need to know what the competition is doing and what the customer wants. They need to be able to analyze data, work as a team and see the big picture. They need to have a creative eye and a lot of patience. Most importantly, marketers need to be confident in themselves. If you can't believe your product, how can you expect anyone else to?

SEO Specialist

As an SEO specialist, I offer social media management, website content creation and optimization, and blog writing services. My typical day is usually spent managing my clients' social media sites and updating their blogs. I also use the Google Adwords platform to help my clients increase their visibility on Google's Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). My favorite part of this job is helping businesses grow their online presence through the power of digital marketing.

PPC Specialist

PPC is an acronym for Pay-Per-Click, which is the process of paying for ads to appear on a search engine like Google. With PPC, you are only charged when someone clicks on your ad. It's an excellent way to drive traffic to your website and can be especially useful for e-commerce businesses. For example, if you're selling running shoes on your website, you might want to target those who are looking for running shoes. However, ads must have excellent copy, as people will only click if they find what they are looking for.
But even if it's cost-effective advertising with great ROI, don't forget about other avenues. We suggest posting on social media (Facebook and Twitter) where people tend to go before searching online. Suppose these posts include links to reviews or videos showing how your product works in different environments (like running on a treadmill). This will give you extra information, so people know what they're buying without looking it up themselves!

Event planner

It's safe to say that event planners have the most creative job in marketing. They are responsible for coming up with innovative concepts and ideas and executing them. But they also need to be great at following directions and working well with others. If you want to work in an environment where you can wear many different hats, event planning might be just what you're looking for!

Project Manager

A marketer is also a project manager. The person with the vision for the company must be able to work with a team to execute that vision. The marketer will have daily tasks such as:
  • Meeting with sellers and suppliers
  • Running campaigns on social media
  • Acquisition of advertising space
  • Creation of promotional materials (posters, flyers, etc.
  • Writing blog posts or articles

Brand Ambassador

As a marketer, you're not always behind the scenes. You are often on the front lines and in the public eye. As an ambassador, you must represent your company to potential and current customers, advocates, and influencers. Your role is multifaceted; you should know what's going on in your industry and how your business operates internally. It can be hard work (for some it's more fun than for others), but the rewards are worth it. People will know who you are because you'll stand out from the crowd - no matter what hat you're wearing at the moment.
